Peter Olafson Bieler Peter Olafsson Bieler (; 1873 – 3 August 1928) was a Norwegian mathematician, writer, and historian. He was the father of the late- influential Bertold Bieler, a writer and historian who had written extensively on the subject of classical physics. Life Early life Bieler was born in Tønsberg, Norway, to a noble family. His father, a prominent Norwegian newspaper editor, was an early pioneer in the publishing of scientific journals. He was educated at the Norwegian School of Science, where he received his B.A., from 1874 to 1879. In 1878 he was appointed professor of physics at the Norwegian school of Science.
