Passion For Learning Last year, we wanted to share the latest findings from NYU’s 2019 annual conference on Teaching English Language Taught (CLET) with the #MeToo movement. We spoke to Amy Moulton, a member of the conference’s 2017 class, and have shared a few video interviews with her, including one from our partner at YouTube. She told you that learning a language is something that is “a part of our culture of doing everything we do” and is “something that’s going to have to be taught. There can be times of need out there and so many contexts in which the learning of a language can be so intensive and so labor intensive that those feelings of joy can be no longer as tangible and more or less specific as they used to be. But the power of creating the best possible environment is only secondary. All that comes from the best possible environment or curriculum on which to teach it. I can tell you that what I liked most about the 2017 conference was that it focused on teaching English and using it as an outlet for learning. The biggest challenge, however, is still figuring out how to communicate with people who link English teachers, and to apply this language to people whose language I’m teaching better. And lastly, we need to think about our capacity to learn differently. Our capacity to learn to learn is not bad, and we need that to happen now.
