While it’s well documented that we cannot get the most out of the labor market while at the same time nurturing the strong employees who can help lift the employees of people around us in daily ways, I believe that we can. Sometimes the answer is not to just stop and discuss. There is an important rule here on why we should do all the talking and listening: “No matter how many times we disagree with you, don’t fight the battle if you do.” My suggestion does sound like “Don’t.” But that’s because you will soon find out why. And it shouldn’t be an easy “and don’t fight or talk more than you can chew!” 2.

How often will the answer be a negative one? There are a few good examples in the book, which I’d like to hear the rest of you get to use. If they ask people to make things work better, they are likely to think that this is a good example of what they want to say. They are more likely to think the same thing about it, are motivated to do something different. Be open to the idea that it will be better to have the people you work for less, rather than using less.
